Senator, Port Authority deputy director square off on legislation to give the DOT more authority over toll increases.
The bill was in response to a toll increase proposed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The complaint claims the higher tolls violate a federal law that requires interstate tolls be set at “just and reasonable” rates.
The 2007 Florida legislature mandated an inflation index every one to five years. The proposed indexing and toll increases will take place June 30.
In Pennsylvania, E-Z Pass customers are paying 3 percent more, while cash customers face a 10-percent increase.
