ATA's For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index shrunk 0.9 percent in August but is still up
The Equipment Leasing & Finance Foundation's Monthly Confidence Index for the Equipment Finance Industry is 53.0, up from the August index of 50.2, reflecting increased optimism.
The amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry rose 0.1 percent in July from June, rising after a one-month decline.
The index outpaced August 2011 volume by 8.4 percent, the sixth time in 2012 that volume has exceeded prior-year levels.
FTR Associates' Shippers Conditions Index for June basically was unchanged from the previous month and remains in near-neutral territory.
The ATA's seasonally adjusted For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index decreased 0.7 percent in May.
