Teamsters split votes at FedEx, lose another at Con-way

The Teamsters Union’s continued campaigns to organize drivers at FedEx Freight and Con-way Freight saw mixed results in recent months, as has been the trend since the union began its efforts last year to affiliate drivers at the two carriers, two of the country’s largest, with the nationwide driver union.

At FedEx Freight, workers at the company’s Stockton, Calif., facility voted to join the union in mid-March, following a 33-12 vote in favor of joining. It became the fourth facility to vote for Teamsters representation, while votes at roughly 10 other facilities resulted in either losses for the Teamsters or a cancellation of a vote.

Most recently, FedEx workers at the company’s Chicago Heights facility voted against union affiliation, the company announced last week.

An April vote held at Con-way Freight’s Buffalo, N.Y., facility also went against the Teamsters — the sixth such outcome at the carrier so far.

The Teamsters have won elections at Con-way locations in in Miami Lakes, Fla., Los Angeles, Calif., and Laredo, Texas.

The Buffalo vote follows Teamsters defeats at Con-way facilities in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., San Fernando Valley, Calif., Bakersfield, Calif., Manchester, N.H., and Harlingen, Texas. The Teamsters have also withdrawn petitions for votes at Con-way facilities in Irvine, Calif., and Orlando, Fla.
