The Denton, Texas, museum we did not visit

Updated Mar 26, 2012

I learned today that there is a little museum in Denton, Texas, where truck parking is available. Learned when Diane found it online when looking for a way to spend some of our layover time.

Diane and I woke up this morning at the TA truck stop in Denton, Texas. We were in service and waiting for load offers. Not expecting much freight action in Dallas on a Saturday, we started looking for things to do.

The museum looked interesting but we got dispatched on an ASAP pick up before we could go.

On this run, ASAP meant ASAP. The pick up was in Austin, about four hours away. The facility closed at 6:00 p.m. It is a very nice run but if we did not make the pick up in time we would be screwed.

After looking at the map and clock, I assured the agent that we could make the pick up on time but I did not allow for traffic slowdowns in Fort Worth and other cities on the route. We made it but only because you can legally drive a truck 65, 70 and 75 mph in Texas, depending on the stretch of highway.

That is faster than we normally drive on the open road. Sixty is our cruising speed of choice; and 55 where that is the speed limit. There are several good reasons to drive slower than the speed limit allows. The big one is improved fuel economy
