As of Friday morning, Tropical Storm Nate is forecast to reach hurricane status before it makes landfall over the weekend.Hours-of-service regulations have been temporarily waived in Alabama and Florida for truckers hauling emergency relief supplies in the wake of any damage caused by Tropical Storm Nate, which is currently developing into a possible hurricane in the Caribbean.
As of Friday morning, the storm is forecast to reach hurricane status before it makes landfall along the Gulf Coast over the weekend.
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey issued a State of Emergency Thursday evening in preparation for the storm. The declaration waives certain HOS provisions for truckers hauling supplies, goods, materials and more to any affected areas. The declaration will expire when the threat diminishes.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott also issued an emergency declaration in advance of the storm for 29 counties in the state, triggering an HOS waiver for truckers hauling supplies to the area.
Governors in Louisiana and Mississippi have not yet declared states of emergency for their states as of Friday morning.
