Widespread parking shortages well-documented around the nation are featured in this month’s magazine and in previously published stories online you can access via OverdriveOnline.com/parking.Overdrive‘s recent coverage of the issue of truck parking around the nation showed a concentration of states where the problem is most pronounced on both coasts. Of the 11 Northeastern states (including Maryland), only New Hampshire and Vermont escape the top 20 list of worst states. And though California tops Overdrive‘s weighted rankings of the worst states for truck parking at No. 1, Northeast states occupied Nos. 2-6 .
In the Top 20 listed below, the weighted ranking is based on each state’s rank as measured in two key metrics showing the parking shortage in the federal Jason’s Law study, as well as Overdrive‘s own reader survey detailing just where you reported parking problems as most evident.

Why is the Northeast so problematic? High traffic, lack of space in dense metro areas and NIMBY (not in my backyard) attitudes making development of new spaces particularly difficult, simply put.
