The bonus was issued in addition to the company’s long-standing mileage and safety bonus programs. Access permits via smartphone

Drivers can now obtain oversize and overweight permits via smartphones from West Chester Permit's online ordering system. The smartphone and tablet-friendly system enables drivers to both order permits and check the status of their orders anywhere they have Internet connection. Issued permits are automatically emailed to customers, which can then be printed. This option eliminates the need to drivers to wait on a fax while on the job. Android, Blackberry and Windows phones are recommended.

Bridgestone reintroduces Dayton brand

Bridgestone Commercial Solutions, a business of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, announced this week the reintroduction of its Dayton medium-duty truck tire line for 2013. The tires are made in the U.S. and, because of lower costs, Bridgestone says, they're made for small fleets and independent drivers. The tires are available for steer, drive, and trailer applications, and each application comes in a variety of sizes.

Wal-Mart driver named Trucker Buddy of Month

Michael Cummingham, a driver for Wal-Mart, has been named the November 2012 Truck Buddy of the Month, after being nominated by his wife, Sharon. Sharon is a teacher at Hayes Grade Center in Ada, Okla. Cummingham carried the class Trucking Buddy mascot, Hayes on his trips around the country. He presented a safety program to 450 first and second-grade students, as well as taking the students on a tour of the inside of his tractor. ...

Mack selects fifth-wheel supplier

Mack Trucks announced that Jost International, a global manufacturer of fifth wheels, landing gears and kingpins, will supply fifth-wheel coupling devices as a standard feature on Mack Pinnacle, Titan and Granite models. Jost fifth wheels, which are manufactured in Greeneville, Tenn., are made with only four moving parts, making them simple and safe. The wheels utilize a spring-loaded steel locking bar that slides into position securing the kingpin automatically.

IdleAir now offers ConvoyTV+Power, an entertainment package that includes more than 60 channels of satellite television. The service includes the ESPN package, 120-volt electricity inside and outside the cab, and basic Internet access on the IdleAir touchscreen.
