Trapped in a cage of my own making

Updated Feb 23, 2012

I learned today that an introduction to expediting piece I wrote five years ago is being resurrected for distribution at truck shows and other venues. Learned when the publisher asked me to update the piece.

This was a nice ego boost in an otherwise frustrating day. Diane and I woke up this morning in our Florida vacation house where we have been since early January. We had hoped to be back on the road by now but here we sit. I feel trapped in a cage of my own making.

Taxes are taking longer to finish up than I anticipated because we are finding a missing document here, an errant entry there, etc. To make things worse  β€” much worse β€” I inadvertently destroyed our business spreadsheet while trying to improve it. If not for backups, all would have been lost. Fortunately, I had backups but it took a good part of the day for me to get to them and reconstruct the spreadsheet. I’m also feeling pressure from writing deadlines I agreed to.

It’s a beautiful day in Florida, but not for me.
