Work in progress

Owner-operator David Nugent, of Drummonds, Tenn., hauls asphalt in his 1997 Peterbilt 379 extended hood from Chicago to Tennessee for Asphalt Transport. Nugent converted the truck from a stand-up to a flat-top and added a custom grille, 20-in. stainless American Eagle bumper, 8-in. Dynaflex exhaust with elbows, custom visor, front and rear fiberglass fenders, stainless T-rear bumper, shaved headlights and Double JJ light bars with Maxima LED lights.

The Pete runs on a 460-hp Cummins and 10-speed transmission. Nugent wins a hat, travel bag and license plate from United Pacific.

Sandman
Robert Lawrence of R&L Towing and Recovery in Flowood, Miss., owns this 2006 Kenworth W900L. Operated by Jimmy McCrory, the truck has a 635-hp Caterpillar and 13-speed Eaton Fuller. The frame was stretched and a Vulcan wrecker bed was added along with 6-in. stacks, lights, an 18-in. Texas bumper and a custom paint job.

Pete’s Pete
Pete Lassen of Peoria, Ariz., owns this 1996 Peterbilt 379-127. Pete’s Pete has a 435-hp Caterpillar and 10-speed transmission that help pull a 2007 Reitnouer spread axle with a polished main frame. Lassen, who hauls flatbed freight under his own authority, added the truck’s drop visor, square bumper and teal green sheen, among other features.

Ole Blue
David Ratliff of Cedar Bluff, Va., says he is living his childhood dream by restoring this 1970 Peterbilt 359S. Ole Blue has a 400-hp Cummins and 4×4 main and auxiliary transmissions with 3.70 rears.

One piece at a time

Adam Rust’s 1976 Freightliner Cabover is more than just an antique to him. “I never thought when I was a little kid that someday I would own one of Grandpa’s trucks,” he says. Rust’s grandfather hauled steel for Dallas Mavis with this Freightliner. The truck is retired now, but Rust is restoring it piece by piece for truck shows and to haul hay on his horse farm in Hanna, Ind. Rust is a mechanic for Tandem Transport.
