You Might Get Your Kicks On Route 66 But You Can Have Fun On Highway 61
While Route 66 is the Mother Road that everyone knows, US Highway 61 is another historic American Road. It is called "The Great River Road" as it follows the Mighty Mississippi River from Minnesota to Louisiana. It is also called "The Blues Highway" as it runs through St. Louis, Memphis, and New Orleans. It originally ran all the way from the Canadian Border to the Gulf of Mexico. However the stretch from Wyoming, MN to the Canadian Border has been changed to a Minnesota State Highway. Traveling along Highway 61 is just like traveling in Route 66, it is an experience in the fading Americana of yesterday.
