Illinois-Tollway-signReporting in the Chicago Tribune, writer Richard Wronski detailed a 40 percent hike in truck tolls that is expected in 2015 for commercial trucks utilizing toll routes managed by the Illinois Tollway Authority. What’s more, annual 10 percent hikes will follow the boost, then “beginning in 2018, annual toll rate increases for trucks and trailers will be linked to the consumer price index.”

As reported, at issue is the Tollway Authority’s funding need for long-in-the-making improvements along its 286-mile system, mostly around Chicago. As Wronski reported:

The executive director of the Tollway says the toll hikes and Move Illinois program will benefit the commercial trucking industry by improving the 286-mile system and helping ensure on-time deliveries.
