Danny Leon-GuerreroAn Oregon-based truck driver is being recognized as a Highway Angel by the Truckload Carriers Association for delivering a baby at a Pilot Flying J truck stop last year.
Danny Leon-Guerrero, a driver for Central Oregon Truck Company out of Redmond, Ore., was about to get ice cream at the PFJ in Ardmore, Okla., when he witnessed a woman come out of the bathroom screaming for someone to call 911 because her daughter’s water broke.
Leon-Guerrero told the woman he was a volunteer firefighter and asked if he could enter the restroom to help. When he entered the restroom, he found a woman on the floor in labor with her husband trying to help. He laid towels down under the woman while her mother encouraged her, and after a few pushes, a baby girl was delivered. Paramedics arrived shortly after and rushed the mother and newborn to the hospital.
“I’ve never delivered a baby before, but I have a lot of medical training and was glad I was in the right place at the right time,” Leon-Guerrero said. “I was on cloud nine the rest of the weekend. I couldn’t believe that I just helped deliver a baby at the truck stop.”
For helping the woman deliver her baby, TCA presented Leon-Guerrero with a certificate, patch, lapel pin and truck decals. His company also received a certificate acknowledging their driver as a TCA Highway Angel.
