Truckers participate in holiday parades to raise funds

Updated Dec 6, 2009

Trucks are the stars of some holiday parades, where truckers decorate their vehicles in Christmas lights and often compete to raise money for charity.

The Truckers Christmas Convoy in Eureka, Calif., usually draws about 100 trucks, decorated with holiday lights and with horns blowing. The parade is set this year for Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. In La Pine, Ore., truckers don’t pay entry fees, but donate non-perishable food items for Christmas baskets to enter Trucker’s Light parade, set for Saturday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m.

Also on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m., the Canadian town of Thunder Bay, Ontario, offers the 11th Annual Parade of Lights for Children. Last year, more than 50 decorated trucks raised $15,145 for local children’s charities.

Also in Canada, Cumberland, B.C., has made its Big Truck Parade a tradition, scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m.

The annual Timber Truckers Light Parade will be Dec. 12 at 5 p.m. It travels from Riddle to Myrtle Creek, Ore., drawing 40 to 70 trucks in past years.
