The Nevada Department of Transportation announced a $1.54 million, 27-mile-long paving upgrade of U.S. 95 from Armargosa Valley to Beatty, in Nye County. The project will place 8,100 tons of oil and asphalt chips during construction or enough material to fill 16,200 pick-up trucks. The stretch of highway was last paved in 1999.
“We’re applying a one-half-inch thick layer of oil, asphalt and fine aggregate, thereby preventing additional roadway cracking and deterioration,” said NDOT spokesman Tony Illia. “Chip seal, as it’s called, is a cost effective maintenance solution that extends the life of the highway while also creating a smoother, safer driving surface”
Work is set to begin this month between MM 29 and 56, with construction lasting through early July. One lane of travel will be restricted as a result, with a pilot car operation and reduced speed limits in place. Vehicles may encounter up to a 30-minute delay, NDOT says.
