The national average retail price of a gallon of diesel retreated for the fourth consecutive week, falling 1.2 cent to $2.775 for the week ending Monday, Nov. 30, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
All regions tracked by DOE declined except one. The lone increase of 0.1 cent was in the New England region, where the price climbed to $2.869. The biggest decrease, 1.5 cents, was in the Lower Atlantic, where the price fell to $2.732.
The nation’s most expensive diesel of $2.90 was in the Central Atlantic, where the price fell 0.7 cent. The nation’s least expensive diesel, $2.724, was on the Gulf Coast, where the price fell 1.4 cents.

DOE said in its recent monthly short-term energy outlook that diesel will average $2.79 in the fourth quarter and rise to $2.94 next year; DOE last month had predicted a 2010 average price of $2.78. This year’s national average diesel price is $2.48.
