Dealer used truck sales strong in August

Used-truck retailers recorded their second best-selling month of the year in August, according to a new report by the ATD/NADA Commercial Truck Guide.

The average selling price of sleeper tractors also improved more than expected to price in the best month of pre-recession 2008. As of August, the average sleeper tractor sold off a dealer’s lot was just less than six years old, had 523,399 miles and sold for $48,348.

“With August’s used truck sales numbers up more than we expected, plus an uptick in August and September new-truck orders, the truck industry is proving the economic naysayers wrong,” said Chris Visser, senior analyst with the ATD/NADA Commercial Truck Guide.
