Veteran home-building fundraiser

The American Legion Family has partnered with the Boone County Habitat for Humanity and the Homes for Wounded Warriors Program in order to help raise money and build Iraq war veteran Sgt. Jesse James a home for him, his wife and his two children. The fundraiser is Saturday, Sept. 29, at The American Legion at 1020 Hendricks Dr. in Lebanon, Ind.

Former trucker of 30 years Bill Clark will be leading a 100 mile motorcycle ride, sponsored by the Lebanon American Legion Riders. Sign in for the ride will begin at 8:30, and the ride will start at 10 a.m. The ride is $25 per bike and includes dinner. There will be a dinner open to the public starting at 4 p.m. with a cost of $8 per plate. After the dinner, at 7 p.m., there will be an auction. There will also be a raffle for an Easy Go Golf Cart, with single tickets sold at $5 each and five tickets sold for $20.

Mary Trott, an organizer for the event, says “Jesse’s story should be told to all the great truckers out there on the roads.” Her brother and sister are truckers, and she feels anyone should be able to “show our troops you care about their lives and the freedom they fight for us.”
