Jon and Miriam Brown and their Volvo home away from home

Regular readers will remember Landstar-leased Jon and Miriam Brown from my feature profiling several expedited haulers in last year’s August issue of the magazine — available online via this link. The team owner-operators run in a unique hauler, a 2012 Volvo VNL300, ordered as a daycab and converted to this by Showhauler Motorhome Conversions:

The pair turned more than a few heads with their operating style — living on the road, primarily, with a heavy emphasis on taking full advantage of recreational opportunities wherever they go (they pack bikes, surfboards, etc. for the long haul). Duly, the kudos were heaped…

…on the company:

Poll on team advantagesJames Jarmon: “One word sums up why this works: Landstar. Only a handful of companies can even compete with this crowd.”

…and on the rig:

TJ: “This is the only way to travel as a Driver!”

52telecaster: “You go to a truck stop for fuel. That’s it. Stock up on groceries and use RV shops or places that allow RVs to dump your waste. Sleep in safer places, too. Unhook the trailer at your destination and come back the next morning instead of sleeping in some dangerous industrial area at night. It looks so much like an RV, I’d doubt they would get turned away at most RV parks without the trailer.”

It looks like the folks at Volvo noticed, too, as the truck maker’s new “Welcome to my cab” video profile series came out of the gate this week with the Browns as its first subjects. Take a look at their video below. For more from the series, and info on how you might be a part of it, follow this link.
