Volvo sells 100,000th I-Shift-equipped truck in North America

03-volvo-i-shiftVolvo Trucks North America announced it its 100,000th I-Shift automated manual transmission-equipped truck, a Volvo VNL 670, has been deployed.

Volvo introduced the I-Shift in North America in 2007, becoming the first truck manufacturer to bring an integrated AMT to the market. The I-Shift became standard on all Volvo-powered models in 2013.

“When we first introduced the I-Shift, many said that it would not be successful in this market,” says Göran Nyberg, president, Volvo Trucks North America. “Yet thanks to the significant efficiency, performance and productivity benefits the I-Shift delivers to our customers, we’re celebrating the delivery of the 100,000th I-Shift-equipped truck.”

The national average dry van load-to-truck ratio was 1.9, meaning 1.9 available van loads for every truck posting on the DAT load board network (a ratio of 3-plus usually works in carriers’ favor). Van rates, however, even with the low ratio, are climbing in the most popular lanes, especially in the Southeast and South Central regions, both of which are where you expect produce season to take reefers out of the van market since they’re needed for temperature-controlled fruits and vegetables.
