What it Takes to Win

Everybody’s watched superstar jocks. The home-run slugger. The rifle-armed quarterback. As any sports fan knows, celebrity-led teams don’t always come out on top. It takes strong coordination from every player, giving 100 percent day in and day out, to produce a winning organization.

Overdrive’s latest honor proves once again that we have such a team. We’re the only trucking magazine to make it to the narrow ranks of the top three in the Magazine of the Year competition of the American Society of Business Publication Editors.

ASBPE Associate Director Robin Sherman explains the nature of this honor: “With our
Magazine of the Year awards, we take a step back to look at the ‘big picture’ and reward the magazines that consistently demonstrate excellence in both editorial and graphics.”

That consistency and broad-based team effort from our editors and designers has surfaced each year among trade journalism competitions. Overdrive received this same honor two years ago, as well as many other regional and national awards from ASBPE. Three times in five years the magazine won the Editorial Excellence Award in its category from Folio: magazine, which covers the magazine industry. We’ve also had finalist honors in the Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards.

These awards recognize that Overdrive is meeting its mission: to deliver useful, detailed information on how to run an owner-operator business in every single issue. We aim for no less because you’re on the line every single month, trying to turn a decent profit and enjoy life on the road, as well as carve out a few hours for yourself or your family. If you’re doing even that much successfully in this industry, you deserve your own awards for a job well done.
