Genre: Science-fiction

Plot: Four boys who grew up together are now adults going on a hunting trip. They meet at the same place they always went when they were kids. The first odd occurrence is the terrible snowstorm that starts immediately. A stranger wanders into their midst, and from then on, everything begins to go wrong. The four friends face a horrifying ordeal that may kill them. They find their belief in aliens is justified, and no one can help them because of a quarantine that is imposed on their hunting area. The strangers they encounter are more horrible than their worst nightmares, and it seems they are unstoppable.

Main characters: The main characters in this book are four boyhood friends who are still friends after 30 years. Beaver is the only one of the group who still lives in the same area in which he grew up. Henry is a psychiatrist with a lucrative business. Jonesey is a professor and Paul is a businessman.

What’s best (or not)? I liked the book because it is a Stephen King book and all of his books are wonderful. All descriptions are detailed. I did not like the length of the book. Too much was said about the past lives of the men, which took away from the story. The book also has a lot of strong language that I feel it could have done without.

Would you recommend? I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Stephen King or Dean Koontz. It’s a great story.

Narrator’s style: The narrator is Jeffrey DeMunn and he does a great job. His accent is just right for the setting of the book. He tells the story with great feeling and gusto.

Grade: A+

Lawyer Paul Madriani is called on to defend a brilliant research physician – who just may be a killer – in the most daunting capital case of Madriani’s career. Madriani has ample reason to suspect he’s representing a guilty man. Dr. David Crone, a respected medical researcher and principal in mapping the human genome, is charged with the murder of a young colleague: Kalista Jordan, an African-American research physician whose dismembered body was found in a nearby bay.

Madriani’s defense is hindered by the secrecy surrounding Crone’s research – which has involved his controversial use of genetic racial profiling. The murdered woman had filed charges of sexual harassment against Crone. Paul is left to piece together a defense while Crone and his colleagues conceal parts of the puzzle.

The Forgotten
Faye Kellerman

The modest place of worship has been desecrated with anti-Semitic graffiti. Rina’s husband, Lt. Peter Decker, is also rocked by this outrage that cuts close to the spiritual heart of his family.

A suspect is soon in custody. Seventeen-year-old Ernesto Golding is an L.A. “rich kid” who cut a deal and had the charges of vandalism dropped. Six months later, Ernesto is found brutally murdered, along with his therapist, Dr. Mervin Baldwin, at the psychologist’s exclusive nature camp that caters to moneyed, troubled children.
