Will Climb for Receipt
A coal hauler filed suit against his fleet, claiming they pressured him to fake his scale receipts by performing a complex climbing maneuver, during which he was injured. “On the day in question,” reported the West Virginia Record newspaper, “[William] Calhoun says he pulled up on the automated scale to find it showing his load was 148,000 pounds.” To get it to a legal 126,000 pounds, he had to roll forward, “so the front axle was off the scale.” Then to get the legal-weight receipt, he “had to walk on a narrow pipe” and step up the side of his truck to reach it, the iRecord/i reported.

His fall ended on the fuel tank.

WWNY reported that “as Fisher tried to shoo the bird out of the cab, the truck ran off the road and hit several fence posts and a utility pole before rolling onto its side in a ditch.” Fisher escaped unscathed. But for a few lost feathers, so did the bird.
