Crews working on a rock fall mitigation project on I-40 in Arizona will have a section of the interstate reduced to one lane through March, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The I-40 Rock-Fall Mitigation Safety Project began this week on westbound I-40 near Joseph City, ADOT says. The interstate will be narrowed to one lane at milemarker 279 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

ADOT says the project offers a permanent solution to chunks of rock and clay falling into the travel lanes in this area.
