Attractive Trucks

BACK HOME AGAIN

Leo Connors’ dream truck, a 1987 Peterbilt 359, arrived the day before Thanksgiving 1986. He admits he made the mistake of selling the truck once, but he brought it back home to Minsersville, Pa., in 1999. Since then he has not had to do much to it; the truck has its original paint, except for the red fenders. All the components, including a 425-hp Caterpillar, are original. “Hopefully, I’ll be able to drive the old gal till we both retire in another 25 years,” he says.

GIFT OF A LIFETIME

Twenty-four-year-old Brad Hayes of West Milton, Ohio, gets to drive a new truck for his company, Community Oil Station. The 2000 International 4900 has a DT466 230-hp motor, which Hayes uses to haul diesel fuel and heating oil in the 2,200-gallon tank. Since the truck is still new, Hayes has added only a polished exhaust and a chrome bumper. However, he washes and polishes it twice a week, “whether it needs it or not.”
