LANDSTAR CONTRACTORS RECEIVE TOP HONOR

Landstar System recognized 18 professional truck operators at a dinner in their honor during Landstar’s annual convention in Orlando, Fla.

The 18 were chosen out of more than 8,000 owner-operators to be named the 2001 Class of Landstar Roadstars. A Roadstar is the highest level of recognition in the Landstar system.


OVERNITE DRIVERS WIN DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Rick Fiscus and Robert White – drivers for Overnite Transportation, a subsidiary of Union Pacific Corp. – delivered repeat performances and brought home their second Truck Driving Championship Awards.

White won his second award in two years at the Nevada State Truck Driving Championships in Reno, Nev., June 8. He won first-place honors in his division and the Grand Champion trophy at this year’s events. White will represent Overnite at the National Truck Driving Championships Aug. 13-17 in Milwaukee.

Fiscus won championship honors at the Indiana Truck Driving Championships held in Indianapolis the weekend of June 12. He also earned a state title in 1989.


JEVIC DONATES $10,000

Jevic Transportation donated a check for $10,000 to Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey, which helps families of critically-ill children maintain home-away-from-home facilities near area hospitals. Jevic executives and employees also volunteered at the home for a day.


KLLM DRIVER WINS MISSISSIPPI CHAMPIONSHIP

Paul Brownlee of Calhoun, La., won the 5-Axle Sleeper Class of the Mississippi Trucking Association’s State Driving Championship held in early May in Biloxi, Miss. Brownlee has been employed for two years with KLLM’s Vernon Sawyer Division and is an 18-year driving veteran. He will represent KLLM at the National Truck Driving Championship. Other drivers receiving honors included Richard Beauchamp Jr. of San Bernadino, Calif., and Bill Fambro of Scottsville, Texas.


AWARDS & RECOGNITION

Buske Lines Inc., Granite City, Ill., awarded their three-time Driver of the Year Charlie Wells with a 2002 Ford Ranger 4Ă—4 pickup for his outstanding service to the company. Wells, who has been with Buske since 1998, works as a company driver and received Driver of the Year awards in 1993, 1994 and 2001. Buske maintains a fleet of more than 300 trucks.

Fortune Xpress, owned by Annett Holdings, honored David Lachniet as its Owner-Operator of the Year 2001 and Martin Arthur and Kevin Davis with the Owner-Operator of the Third and Fourth Quarters for 2001 respectively.

Con-Way Central Express driver Gary Bell was honored April 15 for driving 2 million accident-free miles. A CCX driver for the past 19 years, Bell has been in the trucking industry for more than 25 years. He is the first Con-Way driver to achieve this.

Prime Inc., was selected by Owens Corning/Cultured Stone as its Carrier of the Year for 2001.

PTL named Lanis Lambirth, of Henning, Tenn., Owner-Operator of the Month for February 2002.

Bud Mullendore, a driver for Macy’s Service in Jackson, Wy., was named the Wyoming Trucking Association’s 2001 Driver of the Year. Mullendore has been with Macy’s for 13 accident-free years.

KAT Inc. named Richard Workman of Englewood, Ohio, as its Driver of the Year for 2001. He become a Million Miler for Safe Driving in 2000 and was also recognized for nine years of safe driving in September 2001.
