Open to all attendees and exhibitors of the Great American Trucking Show is the Big Rig Run 5k run-walk, scheduled for 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Katy Trail in Dallas. Participation in the event is free, and participants will receive a Big Rig Run T-shirt, a goody bag and snacks.

The run is being held to benefit the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, in line with Truckers News’ efforts to encourage drivers to be on the lookout for children in peril. Donations will be accepted on site.

The 5k also shines a light on the dire state of driver health and will be used to demonstrate that even small changes to diet and exercise habits can improve overall health. Long-haul owner-operator, marathon runner and Fit for the Road columnist Jeff Clark will participate in the run and will discuss how he fits exercise into a 100,000-mile-per-year schedule.

To preregister, visit bigrigrun.com. Onsite registration will be available, as well.

The event is sponsored by Detroit Diesel, Freightliner, John Christner Trucking, Right Weigh, Swift Transportation and TA/Petro.
