California reefer deadline is Dec. 31

California is warning truckers with 2002 model Transport Refrigeration Units and older that they must comply with emissions control technology before Jan. 1.

Truckers who have not already complied should place emissions control technology orders soon. Stock may be depleted for last-minute orders and then delivery could take up to three months.

CARB will begin enforcement after Dec. 31 and non-compliant TRUs could be penalized up to $500 per violation. There will be no grace periods for late ordering.

The California Air Resources Board said a false rumor exists that this deadline has been extended. Affected truckers should check the TRU Website at http://www.arb.ca.gov/diesel/tru.htm for more information.
