Reality Check

Change is possible

| July 24, 2012

Dear Carolyn,

I’m about to get married to a great guy. He wasn’t such a great guy when he was married to his previous wife. However, he has since quit drinking, got into therapy, lost 50 pounds and has turned into the great guy he once was. I know everything about how badly he treated his first wife but I feel lucky to be getting a new improved version. Does this worry you?

Dear Sue,

The second mouse gets the cheese. Right? You will be fine. I am an optimist and truly believe that anyone can change if they dig deep enough, get enough help and have a good partner. Readers, what do you think? Can someone truly change or am I just offering wishful thinking?
