The KEKA radio station (101.5 FM) in Eureka, Calif., will no longer present the annual Truckers Christmas Parade of Lights this year, the station announced in a press release September 12. That comes after 30 years of presenting the event, with coordinator Dale Bridges, the station notes.

Known for trucks elaborately festooned with lights, the parade has been a mainstay of Northern California holiday festivities.

Station owner Brian Papstein noted that rising liabilities and costs, and declining participation generally, were among reason for the move.

“While our family has put on the parade for decades, it’s become apparent that the additional challenges which have had to be met in the past few years have made this event too overwhelming for us to continue putting on,” Papstein said, then opening to door to help the parade continue as an annual tradition. “Obviously, we are hopeful that another community organization or business with the same passion we have had since 1989 will step up and continue operating this regional Christmas tradition.”

If you or your organization has interest in presenting the Truckers Christmas Parade, you can call KEKA via 707-442-5744 and ask for Angie, the station says.
