Diesel price rises for fifth straight week

8 7 FuelThe national average retail diesel price climbed for the fifth consecutive week, climbing 5.4 cents to $3.85 a gallon during the week ended Monday, Aug. 6, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.

During 12 straight weekly declines from April 16 through July 2, the price of diesel had dropped 49.9 cents a gallon; since that time, the price has climbed 20.2 cents. Still, this week’s price is 4.7 cents below the same week last year.

Average retail prices rose in all regions, led by an 8.4-cent increase to $3.813 in the Rocky Mountains. The most expensive diesel on average was $4.023 a gallon in California, where prices rose 5.6 cents. The least expensive diesel on average was $3.752 a gallon on the Gulf Coast, where prices climbed 5.6 cents.
