Diesel prices have bounced around the $3 mark throughout 2018

Despite weeks of ups and downs in diesel fuel prices throughout 2018 so far, prices have remained flat overall, increasing by 4.7 cents since the first week of the year.

Just over three months into the year, the U.S.’ average price for a gallon of on-highway diesel is $3.043, up from $2.996 after the first week of 2018. Over the course of the year so far, prices have risen as high as $3.086 during the week ending Feb. 5 and dropped as low as $2.972 during the week ending March 19.

California continues to be home to the most expensive diesel at $3.717 per gallon, followed by the Central Atlantic region at $3.232 per gallon.

The cheapest diesel can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $2.844 per gallon, followed by the Lower Atlantic region at $2.939 per gallon.

Prices in other regions, according to the DOE, are:

  • New England – $3.116
  • Midwest – $2.957
  • Rocky Mountain – $3.086
  • West Coast less California – $3.226

ProMiles’ numbers during the week also saw fuel prices during the week remain relatively flat, falling by four-tenths of a cent to $2.982 per gallon nationwide.

According to ProMiles’ Fuel Surcharge Index, the most expensive diesel can be found in California at $3.72 per gallon, and the cheapest can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $2.845 per gallon.
