Diesel prices rise 3.7 cents over previous week

The price of diesel fuel rose for the eighth time in nine weeks during the week ending April 18, according to the Department of Energy’s weekly report.

The average price of a gallon of on-highway diesel is now $2.165 nationwide, a 3.7-cent increase over the previous week.

Prices increased in all regions during the week with the most significant increase coming in the Gulf Coast, where prices increased 5.4 cents.

The most expensive diesel can still be found in California at $2.466 per gallon, followed by the Central Atlantic region at $2.325 per gallon.

The cheapest fuel can be found in the Gulf Coast at $2.046 per gallon, followed by the Midwest at $2.112 per gallon.

Prices in other regions are as follows:

  • New England – $2.287
  • Lower Atlantic – $2.126
  • Rocky Mountain – $2.171
  • West Coast less California – $2.251

ProMiles’ numbers during the same week have the average price of a gallon of on-highway diesel at $2.138 per gallon nationwide, a 4.2-cent increase over last week’s numbers.

According to ProMiles’ Fuel Surcharge Index, the most expensive diesel can be found in California at $2.401 per gallon, and the cheapest can be found in the Gulf Coast region at $2.049 per gallon.
