The Federal Highway Association will be holding fouor workshops this year to discuss the country’s truck parking shortage, the agency announced Thursday at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.

“We want to hear from you,” said Tom Kearney, FHWA truck parking project manager, who made the announcement at the end of a seminar held on truck parking.

Access to the workshops will be limited to allow for an even mix of trucking industry representatives, including owner operators. Workshop attendees will be sourced through partnerships with other organizations, including the Owner Operator Independent Driver Association, according to Thomas Phelan, managing director for Vanesse Hangen Brustlin, Inc.

“We’re going to be kind of controlling the attendance at this,” Phelan said. “The information coming out of it is going to be more important than the participation at the event.”

The workshop dates and locations are:

  • June 8 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Utah Trucking Association headquarters
  • August 25 in Dallas, Texas at the Great American Truck Show
  • October 5 in Grain Valley, Missouri at the OOIDA headquarters

Details for a fourth workshop have not been announced, but it is expected to be scheduled for either July or September.
