Driver responds to crash in snow

Updated Jul 3, 2013

TCA recently named Donald Mackin, of West Bridgewater, Mass., a Highway Angel. Mackin, a driver for ABF Freight System, Inc. in Fort Smith, Ark., responded to an accident during a nasty snowstorm. On Jan. 28, 2013, Mackin was driving on I-495 near Tauton, Mass. Snow was falling heavily, with thick blowing drifts covering the roadway and line markings. Mackin watched as a vehicle spun and careened down an embankment into the woods. Mackin pulled over and called 911. He stayed at the scene of the accident until emergency responders arrived, so they could find it easily due to his truck. While waiting on their arrival, Mackin went to the car and brought the man, shaken up but unhurt, to his truck to wait until the police arrived. Mackin will receive a Highway Angel lapel pin, certificate, and patch.
