Greatwide selects Owner-Operator of the Year

Greatwide Dedicated Transport selected Artie Fry as its 2008 Owner-Operator of the Year out of nearly 4,000 owner-operators at the fleet. Rick Gassman is the 2008 Company Driver of the Year for Greatwide. All 27 drivers nominated for the award are deserving of recognition, says fleet CEO John Simone. “These nominees provide outstanding service to our customers, serve as daily examples of best safety practices and are truly leaders and friends to their peers.”

HONORS
Con-way Freight honored drivers George Cook, who reached the three million-mile mark, and Ronnie Long and Rick Suchy, who achieved two million miles of safe driving. . . . Prime Inc. announced that owner-operator Harvey Williams was chosen as Missouri’s 2009 Driver of the Year. He drives team with his wife, Sue Williams.

EXPANSIONS
Averitt Express, based in Cookeville, Tenn., has opened a service center with 14,000 square feet of dock space and 28 bay doors in Winchester, Va. Service area will extend to eastern West Virginia and western Maryland, including Hagerstown and Frederick. . . . Lexington, S.C.-based Southeastern Freight Lines, a regional less-than-truckload carrier, has expanded direct service to all of Alabama through its nine service centers, five of which are in the state.

Relocations
Old Dominion Freight Line Inc., based in Thomasville, N.C., has relocated its South Bend, Ind., facility and its staff of 30 from 215 S. Olive St., to a larger, 55-door building on 15 acres at 3825 William Richardson Dr.
