Million Milers
KLLM Transport Services recently held its annual Million Mile Safe Driver Banquet to honor those drivers who have driven 1 million or more accident-free miles during their tenure with KLLM.

This year’s class included 33 drivers who reached the 1 million-mile safe-driving plateau during 2006: Stephen Bowerman, Ray Bray, Paul Brownlee, Roberta Bruce, Bartley Caldwell, Janice Cole, Ward Cooley, Cathrine Craigmile, William Drevecky, Doug Evans, Bill Fambro, Michael Huff, Melvin Johnson, Steven Jones, Gary Kiefer, Cathleen Kiefer, Pal Kolek, Todd Maestretti, Jerry McNair, John Melton, Walter Minor, Richard Mullins, Cedric Myers, Ian Narita, Sergio Ramos, John Scott, Joann Seals, Elmer Swann, Felton Thompson, Alton Toucheck, Walter Tucker, John Turman, Terry Wilcox.

Two drivers, John L. Lee and Jim Piper, were honored for reaching 2 million safe driving miles. Nancy S. Oxner reached the 3 million-mile mark. KLLM’s fleet now contains more than 170 active million-mile drivers.


Drivers Wins Fourth Truck
Artemus Collins, a Central Hauling Company driver from Amite, La., recently won a Freightliner truck for recruiting the highest number of new drivers to either Central Hauling Company or its sister company, CalArk International, between April and September of 2006.

This is the fourth truck Artemus has won since he leased on with Central Hauling Company in April 2004.

The next driver referral truck giveaway program for these companies will run until March 2007. In addition to awarding a truck to the grand prize winner, Central Hauling Company and CalArk International award a $500 referral bonus to every driver who refers a driver who is hired.


Pay Raise
Barr-Nunn Transportation is enhancing its owner-operator pay program with the Barr-Nunn $600 Appreciation Bonus. The bonus, which goes into effect this month, will be paid out every 60,000 miles. The company’s current fleet of owner-operators will be able to use the miles they have been accumulating over the year as a way to jumpstart the 60,000-mile tracking. In 2007, Barr-Nunn will also continue its Fuel Protection Guarantee Program at $1.24 per gallon.


Decker Drivers
Decker Truck Line Inc. announced that drivers Daniel Welsh and Mark Palm are the company’s October 2006 Drivers of the Month. Welsh, an owner-operator, was selected from the company’s flatbed division. He lives in Pittsburgh, Pa., and has been with Decker since March 1, 2002. Selected as Driver of the Month for the reefer/van division was driver Mark Palm. Palm started as a company driver in June 1995 and became an owner-operator leased to Decker two years later. He and his wife Dorene live in Centralia, Mo.

Highway Watch Trainer of the Year
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the American Trucking Associations have awarded Milan Express the title of Highway Watch Trainer of the Year. Milan Express was among the first fleets to have all its drivers undergo Highway Watch training. More than 1,200 Milan drivers were trained in 90 days.


CFI Drivers of the Month
CFI recently announced its monthly driver award recipients for September 2006.

Company Driver of the Month was Jose Herrera, who started driving for CFI in 2001 and has driven more than 2.4 million miles. He lives in Laredo, Texas.

Company Team of the Month was James and Janiece Martindale, who both began driving for CFI in 2004. They live in Chickasaw, Ala.

Contractor Driver of the Month was John Newkirk, who began his career with CFI in 1988 and has driven more than 1.2 million miles. He lives in Jay, Okla.

Contractor Team of the Month was Leonard and Sharon Locas, who began their careers at CFI in 1999. They live in Trejo, Mont.
