Evans driver awarded for safety
The Evans Network of Companies presented Obed “Byron” Oglesby, driver for Evans Delivery Company, with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle for his safe driving record. Every year, Evans Network randomly selects a winner for the grand prize bike. Eligible drivers are those with no accidents or incidents in a calendar year.

Con-way Truckload honors first-quarter drivers of the month
Con-way Truckload announces its Drivers of the Month for January, February and March 2009.

January
·Company Driver of the Month: Ken Taylor has been driving for more than 27 years and has driven approximately 890,000 miles since joining Con-way in 2003.
·Company Team of the Month: Carl and Becky Holt have been driving as a team for 11 years and have a combined 2.5 million miles with Con-way.
·Contractor Driver of the Month: Jon Smith started driving for Con-way in 1984 and has more than 3.2 million miles.
·Contractor Team of the Month: Lawrence and Barbara Schmidt have been driving professionally for a combined 74 years – Lawrence has been driving for 39 years, while Barbara has been driving 35.

February
·Company Driver of the Month: Chuck Spitler began his driving career 14 years ago and joined Con-way in 1995. He has driven more than 1.9 million miles for the company.
·Company Team of the Month: Ray and Nikki Pierce have been driving for 11 years and nine years, respectively. Together, they have more than 2.3 million miles for Con-way.
·Contractor Driver of the Month: Garry Woods joined Con-way in 2002 and has more than 925,000 miles for the company.
·Contractor Team of the Month: Bill and Vicki Bumgardner have been driving as a team since 1997 and have driven more than 3.6 million miles for Con-way.

March
·Company Driver of the Month: Eric Howerton started his driving career as a student at Con-way in 2006.
·Company Team of the Month: Al and Jennifer Sidwell joined Con-way in 2005. Al has been driving professionally for more than 18 years, while Jennifer began her driving career in 2001.
·Contractor Driver of the Month: Leroy Ames has been driving professionally since 1967 and began driving for Con-way as a contractor in 1997.
·Contractor Team of the Month: Robert and Cecilia Wallraven became professional drivers in 1990 and joined Con-way in 1998. Since then, they have driven more than 2.3 million miles for the company.

Decker names Drivers of the Month
Decker Truck Line has named its April Drivers of the Month. John Kilmer, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, who has driven for Decker since 1990, was named Driver of the Month for the flatbed division. In his spare time, Kilmer enjoys woodworking, camping and his garden railroad. Jim Brown, of Otho, Iowa, was named Driver of the Month for the van/reefer division. Some of his hobbies include working around the house and yard and watching sports.

DistTech earns safety award
DistTech has earned the Platinum Award from Great West Casualty Company under its 2008 National Safety Awards Program. This marks the fourth consecutive year DistTech has received the highest honor from the trucking insurance company. The award recognizes DistTech and its drivers’ overall commitment to safety, which resulted in a preventable accident frequency rate of 0.48 accidents per million miles of operation in 2008. DistTech was selected from a group of more than 800 participating carriers from across the country.

Marten names March Drivers of the Month
Marten’s March 2009 Drivers of the Month are: Michael Diggins, Douglas Brown, Gary Eck Jr., John Maciella, Joey Cottone, Philip Owens, William Overman, Richard Marquez, Yvonne Swafford, Fred Turlington, Joseph W. Lawson, Jason Caldwell, Donald Galloway, James Wright, James Kelly, Michael S. Earp, John Aker, Robert Head Jr., Matt Kolleng, Walter Williams, Mark Budd, Glenn Bassett and Terry Sandiford.

Atlas rewards customer service
Atlas Van Lines announced that 240 of its more than 3,000 van operators earned the Customer Service Award for 2009. To be eligible for the award, van operators must receive a customer feedback rating of at least 4.5 on a 5-point scale, receive minimal loss and damage claims throughout the year and meet strict safety and operations criteria.

This year, seven Atlas van operators celebrated 10 consecutive years of receiving the Customer Service Award. They are: Lester Bourne III, Perry Schrecengost Jr., Robert Voytko, Charles Racine, Donnell Varner, Ildeberto Macedo and Patrick McDonnell.

Con-way Freight announces 2-million miler
Con-way Freight has announced that Tim Lee, of Odenville, Ala., has achieved 2 million miles of safe driving. Lee safely drove the 2 million miles between 1989 and 2009 and reached the milestone on March 21. Lee has been a professional truck driver for almost three decades and has worked for Con-way Freight for 20 years.

Melton receives honors
Melton Truck Lines recently was selected to receive the 2008 Certificate of Merit from the Oklahoma Certified Healthy Business Program. This is the second year in a row Melton has been recognized. The certificate, presented by the Oklahoma State Department of Health, recognizes companies making positive health and wellness activities available for their employees and contributing to the improving health of all Oklahomans.

Melton also was named a Best Fleet to Drive For by the Truckload Carriers Association. Drivers nominated Melton, which was then evaluated by TCA on performance in areas such as benefits, professional development, driver and community support, safety record and company culture.

Load One Joins Smartway
Load One has joined the SmartWay Transport Partnership, a collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight industry designed to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution. By joining SmartWay, Load One demonstrates its strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility. Load One has implemented a number of environmentally friendly ideas, including recycling, energy efficient lighting, speed reduction and the use of satellite technology to monitor fuel consumption and idle time. These efforts by the employees and contractors have helped increase efficiency and reduce dependence on fossil fuel, the company says.
