Averitt receives St. Jude award
Averitt Express was recognized as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Employee Giving Partner of the Year. The award was presented to the Cookeville, Tenn.-based carrier in recognition of its associates’ support of St. Jude over the last 20 years, during which Averitt employees have donated more than $2.8 million to the hospital through the fleet’s Averitt Cares for Kids program. The program has completed an endowment to fund the initial construction of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Clinic at St. Jude.
Con-way Freight driver takes national driving crown
Carl Krites of Con-way Freight won the 2010 National Truck Driving Championships in August. The American Trucking Associations conducted the event, which is dubbed the Super Bowl of Safety. Krites will be given a new Ford F150 by Con-way and a customized tractor displaying his name and championship title.
Transport America named Limited’s carrier of the year
Limited Brands, a lingerie, personal care, apparel and accessory store, has named Transport Corporation of America as its Mid-Sized Carrier of the Year. The award is based on on-time performance, strength of relationship, damage-free merchandise delivery, billing accuracy and customer service.
Crete opens recruitment websites
Crete Carrier Corporation started three new recruitment websites in August — www.cretecarrierjobs.com, www.shafferjobs.com and www.hunttransporationjobs.com. The sites will have information regarding working for Crete, including info about pay, miles, benefits and home time. Crete offers opportunities in dry van, refrigerated units and flatbed hauls.
A. Duie Pyle recognized by Logistics Management
LTL carrier A. Duie Pyle was honored with the No. 1 Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Regional LTL Quest for Quality award by Logistics Management magazine. This is the fourth consecutive year Pyle has been recognized as such. The awards are based on votes by the magazine’s readers.
