Iowa 80: ‘Coolest’ truck stop

The “World’s Largest Truckstop” — Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott, Iowa — was recently lauded by Truckdriving Biz as one of the “coolest” truck stops, the company says. “This is a neat honor, especially in the year of our 50th Anniversary”, says Delia Moon Meier, owner and daughter of founder Bill Moon. “We strive to make sure people’s visits here are memorable.”

Whether it’s taking a selfie by the World’s Largest Truckstop sign or checking out one of the three semi-trucks located in the 30,000-square-foot Super Truck Showroom, Iowa 80 offers numerous unique and “cool” things to see and do. Professional drivers and travelers can enjoy a meal at one of the stop’s eight restaurant offerings or browse for gifts, do laundry, watch a movie, visit the dentist or chiropractor, and even pamper your pooch at the Dogomat Pet Wash.

Iowa 80 Truckstop opened its doors on June 4, 1964, and hasn’t been closed since. It’s been open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year for over 50 years. “People are traveling at all times of the day and night, so we need to be open to serve them,” says Meier. “We calculated that being open 50 years equates to 18,250 days, 438,000 hours, or 26,280,000 minutes. When you think about it that way, it’s truly an amazing feat!”

A book celebrating Iowa 80’s 50 years in business was published this past spring.
