IRS system to be down Aug. 31

With the deadline approaching for the Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax, be warned that the IRS’ e-filing system will be closed for maintenance this weekend.

HHVUT, or Form 2290, is due Aug. 31, but the agency’s system will be down that day after 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Truckers planning to file Form 2290 electronically should do so before then, as the IRS will not return to processing this form until noon EDT Sept. 4.

The facility maintenance will not affect those filing paper Form 2290, but those who have 25 or more vehicles to report must file electronically.

Form 2290 must be filed through an approved e-file provider. The fee varies by provider and a list of these service providers is available at www. irs.gov/trucker. More information also is available by calling toll-free at 1-866-699-4096 or by visiting www.irs.gov/trucker.

A copy of the notice concerning the agency’s upcoming facility maintenance regarding Form 2290 is available here.
