DARTH VADER RETURNS

This unique rig was nicknamed Darth Vader when it was the Tractor of the Month in Overdrive in 1984, but since then owners David and Irene Hiscox of Bowbells, N.D., have remodeled the 1965 GMC to make it more aerodynamic and economical. They’ve added permanent tarp supports to the dropdeck for full-time cover, fiberglass skirts on each side of the tractor for better air flow, a rounded fiberglass cap atop the cab and other features to their 37-year-old rig. Irene Hiscox jokes that as she and her husband age and their memories begin to slip, the truck is easy to find in parking lots.

CALL IT A CHEVWORTH

This may look like an ordinary 1983 Kenworth W900B, but it’s not. Owned by David Van Winkle of Massena, N.Y., it started as a Chevy pickup with salvaged Kenworth parts. The Chevy body parts were sold off and the frame lengthened to accommodate Kenworth body parts. Van Winkle uses his red rig for personal transportation only.
