Krauss Holds Court at the Palace

Live –
Alison Krauss + Union Station

Alison Krauss and Union Station have been cranking out album after album for nearly a decade now. While their records captivate, it’s really a shame that the energy this band and other bluegrass bands exude can’t be accurately captured on a disc. Luckily, this Live CD is about as good as seeing the award-winning band in person.

This performance from the Palace Theater in Louisville, Ky., is a stunner – a fantastic ride through 25 songs by a band capable of myriad moods and colors. “The Lucky One,” “New Favorite” and “Let Me Touch You for Awhile” showcase the modern acoustic-pop side of Krauss. “Bright Sunny South” and “I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow,” with Dan Tyminski on lead vocal, work the powerhouse bluegrass seam of the group’s huge repertoire. A two-disc album well worth a listen. B+
