A Kentucky-based truck driver has been effectively shut down by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for a bevy of violations, including a failed field sobriety test.
William R. Eichhorn was stopped by Kentucky State Police on May 5 for a roadside inspection. While standing on the steps of the truck, the officer saw a woman in the passenger seat, and federal regulations prohibit passengers without written motor carrier authorization. The officer also saw two children, a 16-month-old and a 7-year-old, in the sleeper berth, and neither child was in a booster seat or secured by a child safety restraint device.
The officer also found in the truck cab a gallon jug of beer, along with drug paraphernalia, including a smoking pipe. A field sobriety test was conducted, which Eichhorn failed.
Eichhorn was also found to be in violation of hours-of-service regulations.
