I-405 lanes in Los Angeles closed again

Updated Mar 5, 2012

Lanes of the busy 405 Freeway in West Los Angeles will be closed for six nights starting last Friday for the ongoing reconstruction of the Mulholland Drive bridge.

Tonight and Tuesday nights, southbound lanes of I-405 between Getty Center Drive and the U.S. 101 freeway (Ventura Boulevard) will be closed starting at 10 p.m. and running until 5 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Southbound lanes again will be closed March 12-13 starting at 10 p.m., Metro said.

Workers will be installing temporary girder plates above each bridge span to support the structure during reconstruction. The work is part of a $1-billion 405 Freeway project that was started last July. That two-day closure spawned the so-called “Carmageddon” warning of congested roadways that never materialized.
