Lucky D

It doesn’t take a casino for truckers to get lucky. The Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, Sept. 26-28, will offer a variety of contests with prizes to please any driver – including a chance at a new tractor.

GATS will give attendees a chance to win a Volvo VN780 in Volvo Trucks North America’s “Get In & Win” sweepstakes. Drivers use scratch-off game pieces to either win instantly, at Volvo Truck dealers or at GATS:

Instant Win: Scratch-off section reveals prizes that can be claimed immediately at Petro Stopping Centers, such as food, beverages and Mobil Delvac oil.

Lucky Number: Another scratch-off section reveals a coded ID number that drivers can take to a Volvo Truck dealer to be decoded. Lucky Number prizes include three Volvo VN780 tractors, Indian motorcycles, laptop computers, Michelin steer tires, satellite radios and more.

Second Chance Give-Away: Drivers can fill in an entry form on each game piece for the chance to be one of three entrants selected for the Grand Prize drawing at GATS. These winners, plus one drawn from entries at the Volvo Trucks booth at GATS, will draw to win the Grand Prize – a Volvo VN780 – or one of three owner-operator prize packages.

The game pieces are available now through Volvo Truck dealers, Petro Stopping Centers and suppliers who participate in the program.

Attendees also can register online at www.gatsonline.com for monthly prizes to be given away leading up to the show. Attendees who register online have a chance to win free passes to a dinner and knight tournament at the Medieval Times restaurant, complimentary meals at some of Dallas’ other fine restaurants or VIP seating and backstage passes for the free Tracy Byrd concert, Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Dallas Convention Center.

Byrd, known for songs such as “Keeper of the Stars” and “The Watermelon Crawl,” is touring to support his latest album and newest single, “The Truth About Men.” At the concert, sponsored by Volvo Trucks North America, Byrd will perform the chart-climbing new song, along with other new songs and his top hits.

  • Truckers News’ Great American Trucking Family. The magazine will present the 2003 Great American Truck Family award to this year’s winning family.
  • Overdrive magazine’s Pride and Polish Competition. These spit-and-polished trucks will be on display inside the Convention Center all three days of the show. Winners will be announced Sunday.

Local artists will provide special music during the service.
  • Fleet Pavilion. GATS is the only major trucking trade show with a dedicated Fleet Pavilion. It’s a special area designed for exhibitors who want to reach the fleet owners, executives, managers and employees who attend GATS. The pavilion features a lounge area and seminars produced by Truckload Carriers Association and Commercial Carrier Journal magazine. TCA will hold its Annual Independent Contractor Division Meeting, Sept. 25-26, in conjunction with GATS.
  • AmeriSearch Music Group’s “Stars of the Road” contest. The auditions, sponsored by Randall Trucking Media Group, will be held Sunday, starting at 1:30 p.m. in the Pride and Polish Exhibit area. Five finalists will be chosen by the public. The finalists will each earn a spot on the second Gear Jammer Records Finalist CD. The first CD compilation was released in July with recordings of the five finalists chosen at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

Pre-registration is available online at www.gearjammerrecords.com. The pre-registration deadline is Aug. 25. To register for Sunday’s audition at the GATS event, visit the registration booth Sept. 26-27.
