Boyd Bros. increases pay
Boyd Bros.Transportation, a flatbed carrier based in Clayton, Ala., has increased its pay from 68 percent to 70 percent of revenue for drivers hauling a company trailer and from 75 percent to 77 percent for owner-operators using their own trailer. “We felt this type of financial commitment would assist with the rising cost of operating and general living expenses,” says Betty Nix, the fleet’s director of recruiting.


Expansions
Heartland Express has purchased a terminal location in Dallas. The office and shop facility is located on Highway 175 in Seagoville. The terminal is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter. . . Miami, Fla.-based Ryder System, Inc., purchased Gordon Truck Leasing, headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa. Revenue is expected to increase $11 million, Ryder officials said. . . .Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. has moved its Midsouth region service center from Thomasville, N.C., to Waynesboro, Va., new, 30-door facility to a near I-64 at 40 Westbrook Court, Fishersville, Va.


Honors
Arkansas Trucking Association recently recognized Stallion Transportation Group driver Jimmy Wallace, 76, as 2007 Driver of the Year…As in 2007, A. Duie Pyle, based in West Chester, Pa., won first place in Logistics Management’s 25th annual Quest for Quality awards in the less-than-truckload category. . . .Bennett Motor Express received the National Defense Transportation Association 2008 Distinguished Service Award Sept. 24 at the NDTA’s 62nd annual forum in Reno, Nev.
