Trucking news and briefs for Thursday, April 30, 2020:

Continental to sunset RoadLog ELD service
Continental announced it is discontinuing its RoadLog ELD product line “due to unforeseen market conditions and the dynamic requirements of the ELD business,” the company said in a statement.

The company will stop selling the devices and subscriptions to the RoadLog Office services on May 1. RoadLog devices and RoadLog Office access will be available for existing customers through Aug. 31, at which point the services will be shut down.

“Our number one concern is that our customers have the support they need to stay in compliance with FMCSA regulations,” said James Bayley, vice president of Continental Commercial Vehicles and Services. “To that end, we have established a relationship with one of the leading ELD suppliers, KeepTruckin. We believe that KeepTruckin will offer our customers attractive options in a new platform for ELD compliance. Our team will be working closely with KeepTruckin to assist our customers with a successful transition.”

Continental is collaborating with ELD provider KeepTruckin to provide a promotional offer to existing RoadLog users. More information on the sunset of the RoadLog program can be found here.

Drivewyze adds Indiana rest area parking notifications
Drivewyze is expanding its rest area parking alerts to include Indiana, along with the previously added alerts for rest areas in Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona, Virginia and Ohio.

Indiana’s alerts will be the first to also include the number of available parking spots at each rest area. Alerts for rest areas in other states let drivers know if the facilities are open or closed for truck parking.

Drivers utilizing the Drivewyze PreClear weigh station bypass service will receive the alerts through the Drivewyze Safety Notifications service when they are 25 miles out and again at about 5 miles out from the locations.

Trucker Tools to add more parking reservation utility to app
The Trucker Tools platform has partnered with SecurSpace, operator of an online marketplace that connects businesses looking for parking and storage options to property owners with dedicated or excess capacity. The engagement is expected to bring more parking-reservation resources to the Trucker Tools app, said Prasad Gollapalli, founder and chief executive of Reston, Va.-based Trucker Tools.

SecurSpace enables on-demand access to industrial real estate properties with available parking, which previously was not accessible, in cities across the country, explained Lance Theobald, co-founder and CEO of SecurSpace, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., calling it “latent capacity” for parking made “easily accessible in one place. We are combatting issues caused by the lack of adequate space in cities and near major highways and interstates. Trucking and logistics businesses nationwide contend with this issue on a daily basis and solving this problem is our specialty.”

Theobald noted that for commercial real estate owners, SecurSpace provides an opportunity to produce new revenue from previously unused or underutilized property. “We are helping them monetize an asset [parking space] in a way they could not previously and bring it to a market where there is significant demand,” he said.

The companies expect to begin integration work in mid-May with commercial availability to follow sometime in June. The move follows a similar integration in Truckers Tools with the TruckPark reserved-parking utility.
