Tank hauler of the year Barbara HermanTank driver of the year honored with new ride
Barbara Herman, a K-Limited Carrier Ltd. driver and current National Tank Truck Carriers Professional Tank Truck Driver of the Year Grand Champion, was presented with a 2020 Peterbilt 579 tractor personalized in her honor at the Northern Ohio Peterbilt dealership in Findlay, Ohio. The new rig features high-end specifications from several NTTC member companies and sponsors, including Cummins, Eaton, Meritor and Michelin.
K-Limited owners Kim and Dean Kaplan came to the idea after seeing how prior grand champions were recognized by their respective companies. “New tractors and personalized decals really highlight the importance of this recognition program,” said Dean Kaplan, K-Limited’s CEO and former NTTC Chairman. Kaplan guided the establishment of the program back in 2013.
The personalized Pete 579 Herman will now haul in.Herman is a 35-year trucking veteran, who earned her honor at NTTC’s 2019 annual conference in Las Vegas, Nev., this past April. The award celebrates excellence in the safety and professionalism among tank haulers. Each year, eight finalists serve as ambassadors for the liquid and dry bulk commodities hauling industry.
Parking reservations app / dock-info provider team up for value adds
Digital parking location and reservation platform TruckPark has inked a partnership with the Dock411 crowd-sourced loading-location info provider to “increase the visibility of parking locations and availability,” TruckPark says. It’s intended to allow access to the nearest TruckPark location for Dock411 users — among them drivers, dispatchers and other operations support staff. Additionally, parking locations and information are automatically shared with all Dock411’s data partners, further exposing information to other users.
Future plans include the ability for drivers to reserve parking directly through the Dock411 app and to see the number of available spots in real-time. Additionally, there are plans to add more capacity around more shipper locations nationwide. TruckPark has been focusing of late on expanding capacity within their network in Chicago and Atlanta metro areas.
Omnitracs donates $25,000 to Wreaths Across America
ELD and telematics systems provider Omnitracs announced Tuesday it has donated $25,000 toward the purchase of 2,500 wreaths for Wreaths Across America. This year is the 10th year Omnitracs has donated to WAA.
“Veterans are an important part of the trucking community, and it’s wonderful to see our employees, customers and families come together for this cause,” said Pat McCaffrey, chief operating officer at Omnitracs. “We’re looking forward to participating again and celebrating the men and women who have served this country.”
Wreaths Across America Day is Saturday, Dec. 14, when wreaths from Maine will be laid on the graves of military veterans at more than 1,600 locations across the U.S. and abroad. Some 2.2 million wreaths will be delivered to cemeteries and memorials, including Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C.
