News roundup, Nov. 13: Large broker’s self-service quote system for small-biz shippers, I-17 in north Phoenix closing this weekend

Trucking news and briefs for Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019:

A self-service freight-book platform for small-biz shippers
C.H. Robinson’s new Freightquote platform the first is a self-service platform that guides small business shippers to multimodal freight-movement options, aimed at delivering savings, reliability and visibility, the company says. With the web-based, mobile-responsive tool Robinson is hoping to streamline the process and allow small business customers to book freight without any shipping knowledge or expertise — without even having to sign up.

“Our research shows that small business shippers want ease of use and peace of mind when booking their shipping,” said C.H. Robinson President and CEO Bob Biesterfeld. “Customers are guided through a simple, transparent process that allows them to make the best shipping decision for their small business.”

Small-biz customers enter a few details and can compare competitive rates on file from carriers, Robinson says, for LTL or truckload movements, paying within the platform with a credit card, likewise tracking movement there. The launch of the system follows an initial pilot trial period, and its platform is the company’s proprietary Navisphere management platform.
