Jimmy Hoffa serves owner-operators – on rye bread

Jimmy Hoffa, Teamsters leader from 1957-71, was a frequent target of Overdrive lampoons, as seen in this October 1962 cartoon of Hoffa creating an owner-operator sandwich. Hoffa disappeared in 1975 and was declared legally dead in 1983.


Hey, it beats the game room

Mass 10 Truck Stop in Auburn, Mass., a frequent Overdrive advertiser, ran this cartoon in summer 1967, offering truckers a free vacation “for four hours or four days.” The establishment began advertising itself as The Dump after a trucker made that comparison. The now-closed truck stop’s offerings included free use of its lake house, beds, water skis
